Langley is a city located 40kms from the downtown core of Vancouver, about an hour’s drive. It’s also situated in close proximity to the US and Canadian border, the BC Ferry terminals and the Vancouver and Abbotsford International Airports.
There are two districts of Langley: The Township of Langley that extends south of the Fraser River to the US border, with Surrey on the west and Abbotsford on the East; and the City of Langley that is along the western central border of the area and also borders Surrey. Each district is governed by its own mayor and council. The Township of Langley has a population of about 117,000 and the City of Langley has about 26,000 residences.
Langley started as the home to the Stó:lo and Kwantlen first nations. In 1827, Fort Langley was built to support the fur trade as a main trading post and is now known as the “Birthplace of BC”. The Fort Langley National Historic Site is a common attraction and hosts main exhibits and events for people of all ages to learn how this city was formed.
While largely a suburban community, Langley also has a strong agricultural presence the further you get from city centre. Most of the Township of Langley is located on the Agricultural Land Reserve, is the Horse Capital of BC, and also has a wide selection of local wineries, cideries and breweries, and other local vendors that you can visit on the Circle Farm Tour.
This valley hub has so much to offer when it comes to amenities, restaurants, and more that you can always find an activity to keep you exploring this great piece of the Fraser Valley. Take a walk on the Fort to Fort trail, watch a Vancouver Giants game at the Langley Events Centre, take a brewery tour through Dead Frog Brewery, then dine at one of the many restaurants in all of the different municipalities of Langley.
